Signiant Names Asia-Paciﬁc MD
SIN: Signiant has named storage industry veteran Michael Burnie as Managing Director of the company’s growing Asia-Paciﬁc operations. Based in Singapore, Burnie is responsible for advancing the company’s sales and service operations in the region to meet growing demand for Signiant’s suite of ﬁle movement solutions. During his 25-year career, Burnie has been widely credited with launching storage giants EMC Corporation, Network Appliance (NetApp) and Isilon Systems (acquired by EMC in 2010) into Australia and Asian enterprise markets.

EVS Broadcast Equipment Appoints CEO
EVS Broadcast Equipment has appointed Joop Janssen as Managing Director and CEO of the company. Janssen, who has over 25 years of experience in the broadcast video, professional audio and telecommunications equipment industries, said: “EVS is a very strong global brand in the expanding high quality digital video production market. Based on close customer engagement, excellent service, world’s ﬁrst innovations and robust technologies they are poised for further attractive growth.” Pierre Rion, Chairman of the Board of Directors of EVS, said: “EVS will certainly beneﬁt from his experience of managing different companies in different cultures, his deep knowledge of the broadcast industry and his strong personality.” Janssen recently served as Chief Executive of the Vitec Videocom division on the Executive Board of the Vitec Group. Prior to that he was VP and General Manager of Phillips Broadcast (formerly BTS) North America where he was instrumental in the successful divestment to Thomson Multimedia and the subsequent acquisition of the Grass Valley Group. Currently based in the UK, he will start ofﬁcially at EVS on September 3 and will relocate to Belgium with his family in due course.

Bridge Expands Asian Network
NOR: Bridge Technologies has added Hanoi-based broadcast and media network integrator Vietcoms to its partners. The entire range of Bridge Technologies products will be sold and supported in Vietnam by Vietcoms’ team of experienced specialists. In addition to solutions for cable and satellite infrastructure, Vietcoms will offer the OTT monitoring tools included in the latest Bridge Technologies probes.

Following an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders to be held at the end of August 2012, he will become Managing Director.

Snell Morpheus Drives PLAZAMEDIA
6 PLAZAMEDIA GmbH has extended its installation of Snell’s Morpheus broadcast automation solution to playout its entire line-up of 16 premium channels. This includes the full roster of Sky SD and HD sports channels and, most recently, the Disney Channel. With the migration of the Disney Channel, PLAZAMEDIA’s Morpheus installation is now one of the most signiﬁcant in Europe. “Our company has been using Snell software and hardware since 1996, and we value our nearly 16year partnership. Over this period, Snell has consistently applied its insight to develop products that meet the evolving requirements of broadcasters,” said Chris Wieland, Director of Technology, PLAZAMEDIA GmbH. “Morpheus is the ideal choice for our range of high-end and premium channels, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with Snell well into the future.” PLAZAMEDIA provides playout services from its headquarters in Ismaning, north of Munich. The Sky sports channels now under Morpheus playout automation include four SD channels, three HD channels, and Sky 3D, as well as an additional “wild card” channel that enables Sky to open additional programme slots temporarily during peak periods. The channels SPORT1 and SPORT1+ are running on Morpheus, as well as two channels for Walt Disney Company Germany (Disney XD and Disney Junior), a new American pay-TV channel called My German TV, and the sports channel My Sports Germany.

Comms Corporation Deploys Observer
USA: Communications Corporation of America has deployed Volicon’s Observer digital video monitoring and logging system. The broadcast and digital media company has conﬁgured four Observer systems to ingest all stations’ production feeds and subsequently enable news anchors, producers, and reporters to clip and automatically convert video for Web delivery.
