Sennheiser Song Contest Milestone
AZE: The 57th Eurovision Song Contest marked a milestone in the use of Sennheiser equipment at the show. Host broadcaster Ictimai TV chose Brainpool TV who produced and directed the event. Markus Müller of MM Communications supplied the wireless equipment. He worked with a team of six to look after the microphone and monitoring requirements in Baku. More than 150 wireless microphone and monitoring links were in use.

Camera Corps Gets Tactical For Euro 2012
Over 50 remotely controlled cameras, including ten Camera Corps Q-Ball ultra-compact HD pan/tilt/zoom systems, are en-route to Poland and the Ukraine for Euro 2012. The competition will see 16 nations will compete – the winner gaining automatic entry to the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil. A 20-strong team of Camera Corps technicians will install cameras at four venues in each of the two host countries. These will feed live video direct to the international broadcast centres in Warsaw and Kiev. “Each of the eight venues will have two Hitachi DKH32 cameras on VHR heads looking down the respective goal lines,” details Senior S u p p o r t Technician David Sisson. “We will also be installing tactical cameras to capture pictures from the rear of each goal. Each of these will be a DK-H32 ﬁtted with a wideangle lens, again on VHR head. A similar conﬁguration will be used to capture venue-wide shots. For external beauty shots we will ﬁeld Hitachi DK-H100 cameras on our new Type 2B weatherproof head. Each of these will be mounted on a crane looking towards the stadium from the outside.” Introduced at this year’s NAB, Camera Corps’ SMPTE 3K Remote Link allows remotely located broadcast cameras to be operated over ﬁve kilometres or more while maintaining the security and reliability of a dedicated link.

TSL’s PAM2 For London 2012
GBR: The BBC is to take delivery of over 40 TSL Professional Products PAM2 multi-channel audio monitoring units for use across its Olympic broadcast facility within the International Broadcast Centre. Forty-six of the units, supplied by Dega Broadcast Systems, will sit across numerous operator positions in the temporary facility. This includes the VT editing suites and playout desks, main MCR, three main TV galleries and the commentary line-up area.

BBC News Selects LiveU Mobile
BBC News is extending its use of LiveU LU60 mobile uplink solution for newsgathering in both the UK and the US. The broadcaster will use the technology to enhance coverage of both the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics, and the US Presidential election campaign. Footage will be supplied to BBC News, BBC World and BBC World America. BBC News has been using LiveU technology for upwards of three years. The BBC deployed LiveU’s cellular uplinking technology for coverage of worldwide events including the Queen’s visit to Ireland in 2011, the recent anniversary of the Tsunami in Japan as well as the US mid-term elections during 2010. In the UK, LiveU’s technology is regularly used for BBC newsgathering, taking advantage of the three ways it can be deployed: live, as-live and also store-and forward. With its portability, ﬂexibility, high resiliency and costeffectiveness, the LU60 uplink solution can be used in diverse situations as well as extreme weather conditions - a prime example being the recent storms in the UK. The technology has been supplied by LiveU’s UK distributor Garland Partners Ltd alongside a full service package. Red TX Records Titanic Sounds
GBR: Broadcast sound specialist Red TX was recently commissioned to record the audio for MTV Presents Titanic Sounds, an open-air festival to mark the opening of the tourist attraction. The one-off major music gig featured performances by Olly Murs, Pixie Lott, Katy B, Rizzle Kicks and Sean Paul. Red TX used its newly refurbished Red 1 truck for the 5.1 surround audio recording, with director Tim Summerhayes at the controls.
