Pinewood Studios Adds DVS VENICE Servers
Pinewood Studios Group has opted for broadcast servers from DVS for its television studios. VENICE, as presented at this year’s NAB, comes with numerous improvements, supporting various new ﬁle formats and codecs. One of the most important features for Pinewood Television’s new ﬁlebased workﬂow is the potential to easily run through the process of repurposing material. Thanks to VENICE and Pinewood’s newly built data centre, its experienced television team can react quickly to its customers’ needs and their changing requirements. This stateof-the-art workflow allows for comfortable and reliable content provision. Equipped with new interfaces, VENICE meets revolutionary standards. The VENICE systems provide eight video channels to be utilised for recording and playback on shows recording in Pinewood’s television studios, plus providing ingest and near instant editing. The DVS broadcast server manages native capturing and play-out of all common broadcast formats such as Apple ProRes 422, Panasonic DVCPRO, AVC-Ultra, Avid DNxHD and Sony XDCAM HD, simultaneously scaling the different formats and creating proxy ﬁles. VENICE is especially strong when it comes to changing projects with different formats for different clients and productions. The broadcast server allows for a quick and comfortable conﬁguration and adapts to different scenarios with ease, providing the users with the right content quickly. Pinewood Te l e v i s i o n ’s production chain was upgraded with a SpycerBox Ultra that will be implemented as a metadata and ﬁle server. The high-performance bridge between different networks will enable Pinewood to connect its real-time and non-real-time workﬂows with each other so it can proﬁt from the additional protection with multiple RAID-5 systems. At this year’s NAB show, Sisvel Technology demonstrated an entire 3D broadcasting chain – from 3D live content to video encoding and distribution – with high-resolution 3D transmissions using the 3D Tile Format. The versatile format can also be viewed in 2D on a 2D TV set. Also on display at Sisvel’s booth was an expanded range of 3D Tile Format-compatible set-top boxes (STBs), including Sim2’s 3D Home DVB-T and 3D Home DVB-S, a decoder from Giada, and JUICE 3D, the new decoder from Antik Technology. Further STB product announcements are expected later in the year. Sisvel Technology presented a greatly expanded catalogue of 3D content. This library included the new 3D programme “My 3D Guide,” a series of 24-minute guided tours of some of the world’s most beautiful locations (including Las Vegas, Hanoi, Amsterdam, and Berlin); specials on the Holy Shroud of Turin and the Carnival of Venice; sporting events; fashion shows; to name a few.
