Rx are each housed in a robust 92 x 64 x 30 millimeter metal case. Each module weighs 100 grams and consumes just 2.5 watts. Operating temperature range is -30 to +70 degrees Celsius. Draka’s new MaxCap-BB-OM3 and MaxCap-BB-OM4 are designed for use in 10 Gbit/s links. A bendinsensitive multimode capability is claimed to provide additional power margins compared to the bending performance of regular multimode fibres. Reliability of the multimode fibre systems can be further improved with such by implementing BendBright technology. Fischer’s MiniMax connectors offer high pin-density and mixed connections. The HD-3000-II uses an OLED screen and a menu driven system for control and configuration. Consisting of six modules, the HD3000-II family provides customers with a choice of LC, ST, FC or SC connectors, depending on the converter selected. HD-3000-II line offers the flexibility to convert HDSDI signals to optical fibre and output them as single or dual HDSDI feeds. Dual-channel modules allow the conversion of two channels, making them suitable for 3D, dual-link HDSDI, or two completely independent HDSDI channels. SD, HD, and 3G signals can be intermixed in any combination. The HD-3000II converters also offer electrical isolation that eliminates ground loop problems. HD-3000-II modules include the HD-3000-2TX dual channel HDSDI to fibre converter, HD-3000-2RX dual channel fibre to HDSDI converter, HD-3000-1TX single channel HDSDI to fibre converter with looping HDSDI output, HD3000-1RX single channel fibre to HDSDI converter with dual HDSDI outputs, HD-3000-TRX HDSDI/ fibre transceiver and the HD-3000DR single channel HDSDI in (single channel HDSDI optical out with two BNC HDSDI outputs) for drop and repeat applications. Neutrik’s opticamSWITCH fibre optic camera router allows switching of camera positions between several studios and control rooms, eliminating the need for highmaintenance SMPTE cables patch fields. The device uses silica-based planar lightwave circuits equipped with thermo-optic switches. LANbased remote control software shows switching and camera status as well as enabling broadcast production automation. Optical Cable Corporation has introduced a new family of ultrahigh density fibre optic cables.

HC-Series cables incorporate tightbuffered 12-fibre units and offer up to a fifth reduction in diameter and weight relative to conventional loose-tube cables. Suitable for direct pulling with wire mesh grips, HC-series cables eliminate the need to splice outdoor cable to indoor cable at building entrance. Telecast Fibre Systems’ CopperHead Visa is designed to provides a fibre optic link between remotely deployed HD newsgathering cameras and thirdparty transmit/receive and audio embedder/de-embedder systems such as the Evertz Video PassPort. The same processing device simultaneously sends a return video feed with up to two channels of audio are de-embedded for crew communications. The link can be mounted to an external battery.

Point-To-Point

Copper has survived the competition from optical fibre for many decades and will probably remain cost-efficient for a few more years, at least in short-distance applications. Wi-fi has an obvious role for smallscale equipment interconnection but lacks the capacity and reliability for elaborate industrial-grade networks. A very interesting technology currently being explored is pointto-point (anywhere to anywhere) communication using neutrinos.
