KCET’s Burbank Facility Goes On-Air With Marina
Pebble Beach Systems has announced that the ﬁrst Marina automation system to be deployed in the US has gone on-air at KCET’s new Burbank facility.
KCET is an independent noncommercial public television station licensed to Los Angeles and, with the largest geographic reach of any public station in California, the entire outﬁt recently relocated to Burbank from its original Sunset Boulevard base. Pebble Beach Systems said that Marina was chosen by KCET after an “extensive study” of a variety of automation systems. Supplied via leading US systems integrator, The Systems Group, the system, which features fully redundancy, controls seven channels, including KCET HD, KFAM, BBC and Future. Scott Grifﬁn, VP of Engineering and Technology at The Systems Group, said: “KCET has moved the entire ingest, playout and postproduction operation across to this new greenﬁeld site over the past few months, and the new automation system sits at the heart of this signiﬁcant new installation. As primary contractors for the technical installation, we have been very impressed with both technical solution and with the cando attitude of the projects team at Pebble Beach Systems.” Marina interfaces to the ProTrack trafﬁc system from Myers Information Systems using BXF protocol, and the two-way interface allows accurate clip duration and segmentation information to be automatically exchanged between trafﬁc and the playout automation. This saves duplicated effort and avoids the need for an operator to amend schedules each time the details of an item are changed. Marina also interfaces to the latest generation of Seachange servers and Evertz mixer/graphic devices, and includes a layer of content management between the Seachange main and backup storage systems.
