IDX Technology
A recent new addition to the IDX Technology range or portable power equipment, is the A-E2KPm – a custom V-Mount sleeve to house and mount the AJA Ki Pro Mini recorder directly to the rear of V-Mount cameras. By incorporating a P-V plate into the housing, IDX ENDURA batteries can be attached to power both the Ki Pro Mini and camera. The new VL-PVC1 is a lightweight single-channel travel charger for ENDURA V-Mount batteries which can be easily stored in the side pocket of a camera bag for true ﬁeld portability. IDX’s power products also include the high capacity ENDURA ELITE (136 watt-hours) and high load ENDURA-HL9 (88 watt-hours) with PowerLink.

Pro-X
Pro-X Professional Battery Systems, based in Zhengzhou, China, offers a range of batteries for high-end camcorders. A recent addition to its range is the Pro-X RED. Internal protection circuits monitor cell balance, temperature, over-charge and over-discharge. The battery can communicate percentage charge data with the camera. An integrated P-Tap on the side of the battery allows other 12 volt direct current devices to be powered. A four-element LED shows capacity in 25 per cent increments. The PRO-X XP-L95RED has a 97 watt-hour capacity which is equivalent to a run time of 3.8 hours.

Looking Ahead
Some years ago, a broadcast industry commentator suggested that all data archiving would soon be on solid state media rather than its present mix of tape, disk and ﬁlm. Yes, sure, but that depends on what is meant by ‘soon’. Applying the same logic, everything in broadcasting, including content distribution, may eventually be achievable using battery-powered devices. But don’t hold your breath. Meanwhile, an increasing number of electrical products now being brought to market that operate on low-power direct-current so each comes with a separate mains adapter. International legislation to conform these devices is long overdue. In an ideal world, all low-voltage consumer kit would run off a single standard USB power emulator. ■

SWIT was established in 1996, its ﬁrst product being an NP-1-compatible battery for Sony camcorders. The SWIT product range today includes lithium-ion and nickel-metal-hydride batteries in a variety of form factors. These are supported by four V-mount, ﬁve Gold-mount, two NP-1 and ten DV chargers. PAG’s new PAGlink charger, designed for linked battery charging allows up to 16 PAGlink batteries to be charged simultaneously, eight per channel. PAGlink is claimed to be the only camera battery system that allows batteries to be linked together in multiples. Two, three, or up to eight batteries can be joined, combining capacities for longer camera run-time, and providing up to 12 amperes of current. The battery combination forms a high-speed serial network which controls discharging and allows charging to take place while the batteries are linked. PAG’s PL16 charger is capable of supplying 6 amperes at 16.8 volts and can fully charge all of the batteries regardless of the differences in their individual charge state. The charger features PAG’s Intelligent Parallel Charging software so that both positions are charging simultaneously. During charging, the percentage state-of-charge of each PAGlink battery is indicated on its individual ﬁve-LED display, showing which batteries are ready to use. The stages of the charging process for each channel are clearly indicated on the charger’s backlit LCD screen. The mostdischarged batteries are given a higher charge priority. Hawkwoods
Hawkwoods’ Reel Power Film Camera System has been speciﬁcally designed for running high voltage, high speed film cameras. This includes the widely used Phantom series. All batteries feature a male V-Mount type ﬁtting which is compatible with the Reel Power range of chargers, adaptors and ﬁttings. The portable RP battery chargers are designed to charge either the 26V or 30V series of RP batteries sequentially. Featuring two V-Mount type channels, they will charge the Manganese RP90M or RP-100M in approximately one hour. Two RP-140 or RP-180 batteries can be charged in around four hours each respectively. The V-Mount battery mount allows high speed high power ﬁlm cameras to use the Reel Power range of high capacity batteries. Power is transferred to the camera via a 3-pin XLR ﬂying lead. Additional power distribution is available via a PowerCon (D-Tap) socket and three-pin Fischer connector. The RP Camera Adaptor allows the high capacity Reel Power battery range (26/30 volt) to be used with conventional 12 volt broadcast cameras. It will attach to any camera using the Sony V-mount type battery ﬁtting, creating Reel Power battery
