are an important network design factor.” IBC saw the full range of Blackmagic Design’s new ATEM Production Switchers on display. In the last year, Blackmagic Design made significant investment in the development and manufacture of high quality production switchers with new features, smaller size, lower cost and the ability for users to customise their solution for their needs and budget. The switchers have SDI and HDMI inputs enabling entry into the live production market quite easily and creation of work at a professional level. Another shift is in the way that Blackmagic have decoupled the switcher from the control panel. While not unique to have two parts – panel and switcher – what is unique is that the software control panel is free. Users only have to purchase the production switcher and so again, the barrier to enter the live production market is lowered. The number and type of inputs and outputs; this is the number one criteria because the switcher has to fit into an environment with
