and media operators must provide high quality content on demand,

sing sports as an example, fans value the
availability, convenience and accessibility
of live content more than any other. Yet the
majority demand access to their streamed
content moments before a game or sporting
event commences. Therefore, the need to
scale up and down is very important.
Premium sports, or pay-per-view events,
have remained the life-line for pay-TV and
traditional TV operators in the shifting media
landscape. However, with the advent of online
streaming they will need to rethink distribution
that will keep current consumers and acquire
new customers by offering a seamless
viewing experience across multiple devices.
Today's media players can learn from
retail, telecoms and other sectors that
are piloting machine learning and cloud
technologies in order to adapt to the realities
of the current markets. Cloud infrastructure

enables operators and service providers
to address the demands of the media
landscape, providing the agility and ability
to evolve quickly and respond to changes
in consumers' video consumption habits.
Operators who can offer IPTV with high speed
broadband are growing quickly across the
region. Asia-Pacific continues to lead the way
in embracing new technologies and network
speeds with 5G initiatives in South Korea,
Australia, Japan, China and India. South Korea
rolled out their first 5G networks in December
2018.
Technologies such as AI and machine
learning can potentially remove some of the
subjective guesswork out of personalization.
One subsection of AI, deep learning, is
being used in video scaling, de-noising and
compression artefact removal. We can also
integrate more advanced data analytics to

help enhance content recommendation; for
instance, by managing and verifying social
media influencer content and bringing it
into the wider media distribution chain.
Now is the perfect time to accelerate,
integrate these technologies into future
services and experiment with new
monetization strategies, in order to deliver
a more dynamic quality of experience, which
connects and adapts to the consumer's
experiences, preferences and patterns of
viewing behavior.

hether a broadcast studio or an air traffic

While KVM solutions are often built on
direct-connect
technology,
customers
requiring more complex systems with many
computers and many users are benefitting
greatly from IP-based solutions.
IP KVM technology gives the customer and

their integration partner the opportunity
to design a network that supports today's
needs while also enabling scalability over
many years without major investment. IP
systems utilize commoditized network
switches, require less infrastructure,
and won't need scheduled downtime
to upgrade- costs are reduced and ROI is
boosted- all before the practicalities and
product features have been considered.
Practical steps: The best way forward from
there will depend on the use case.
A broadcaster with a campus-wide KVM
deployment will think about speed. How
quickly can I gain access? How quickly can
new transmitters and receivers be added
if we need additional users or studios?

considerations such as hardware footprint
and reliability are essential.
