of the Future
The satellite industry has been working hard over
the last decade to get a handle on the seriously
disruptive effects of interference...

F

or users, that means those in the broadcast
industry and wider, some of this goes
unnoticed, particularly given that the satellite
operators are working hard to fix issues before
they cause noticeable problems for the end
user. Currently, there is a perceived balance
in which interference is problematic, but
manageable.
The problem is the planned expansion
of satellites for things such as connected
devices, and demand for connectivity
everywhere means that space and spectrum
is going to become congested. 7,000+ LEO
satellites are due to launch in the next five
years alone. With so many separate entities
operating in space, there is surely going to
be a spike in interference, causing service
degradation, or for the broadcast world, the
potential loss of services and increased cost

to manage the problem.
Therefore, it's so vitally important that the
satellite sector looks ahead to the 'super
networks' of the future, working alongside
users to put preventative measures
in place to ensure they remain
interference-free.

Innovation Technology Tour
The Satellite Interference Reduction
Group's (IRG) aim has always
been to encourage and facilitate the
development of innovative technology
and tools to both prevent and solve
harmful interference. Many of its
members have been doing just that,
with several new tools introduced
over the past few years which are
already having a real positive effect on

our space environment.
That's why at CommunicAsia 2018, IRG will
be holding a technology tour focused on new
innovations in satellite interference mitigation
technology. Led by Martin Coleman,
Executive Director of IRG and independent
consultant, the tour will stop at various IRG
member booths where an expert will be on
hand to offer an in-depth exploration of their
company's innovative tools and mitigation
techniques.
The tour will also consider future

innovations,
including
how
Machine
Learning and AI-based technology could
be developed and built into tools to predict
interference before they cause harmful
effects. One solution could be a Digital
Assistant Programme, designed to learn
from engineers' accumulated knowledge
and process data in a way that could help us
predict interference patterns and trends.
Exhibitors confirmed as stops on the tour
include: ETL Systems, Eutelsat, Global
VSAT Forum (GVF), Inmarsat, Integrasys,
Intelsat, Kratos, Newtec, Novelsat,
Siemens, Sky Perfect JSAT and Work
Microwave.
The tour will run every day during
CommunicAsia between 26 to 28
June at 11am and will start from the
Meeting Point on Level 5. For further
