n keeping with its tradition of innovation,
VITEC was the first company to take
the benefits of HEVC encoding out of
the server room and bring bandwidthefficient HEVC compression technology
into the field with portable streaming
appliances.
Now, the company is expanding its HEVC
ecosystem with the introduction of the
quad-channel MGW Diamond HEVC and
H.264 HD/SD encoder and the VITEC Playout
Server. This expansion of its HEVC line-up
establishes a complete ecosystem that fits a
wider range of applications and requirements
as customers transition their video services
to keep pace with the ever-changing video
landscape. The company's broad solution of
point-to-point, point-to-multipoint, and a full
IPTV and digital signage platform together
is now bolstered by the new VITEC Playout
Server that gives customers all the options
they need to build out a distribution system
that is reliable, boasts low latency, and has
the highest quality video over the lowest
possible bandwidth utilisation.

Point-to-Point Encoding
Three years ago, VITEC began building
out this versatile HEVC ecosystem with
the introduction of its award-winning
MGW Ace HEVC encode/decode solution.
This powerful, yet compact point-to-point
broadcasting contribution solution set new
industry standards by providing pristine video
quality with its HEVC (H.265) bandwidthefficient compression as well as legacy
H.264 encoding capabilities. The MGW Ace
delivered the highest HEVC quality and lowest
latency video streams in a professionalgrade portable streaming appliance, enabling

low latency across four channels with up
to eight streams output, meeting customer
demand for more flexible distribution
requirements in dynamic video
networks.

Managing IPTV-Protected
Streams

Efficiently manage, capture, and preview IPTV-protected streams

customers to transmit flawless video streams
over the Internet and eliminating the high
costs associated with satellite infrastructure
or dedicated networks to get data to major
distribution points. With that achievement, the
company successfully met the most rigorous
requirements of today's broadcasters and
other video streaming operators and delivered
the highest quality news on the go with
the portable point-to-point HEVC hardware
encoder.
In addition, the appliance offered
unparalleled benefits for navigating the
evolving IP streaming landscape and growing
applications. That included a wide selection
of I/Os and low power consumption, making
it the perfect solution for streaming video,
audio, and KLV metadata while in the field or
on the move. It also became the leading HEVC
hardware encoder to feature intelligence,
surveillance, and reconnaissance metadata
processing with KLV and STANAG support
conforming to MISB and NATO requirements.
A secondary MPEG-4 H.264 chip provided
support for legacy decoders and proxy
streaming. Finally, the included Pro-MPEG
and Zixi™ technologies offer one and
two-way error correction protocols
for broadcasting artefact-free
over public networks securely
and reliably.

But VITEC wasn't done.
The company had its eye

on delivering the best HEVC quality. Soon
after the success of the MGW Ace, VITEC
introduced the current version of the MGW
Ace powered by the company's secondgeneration 4:2:2 10-bit HEVC GEN2 codec.
This innovation enabled users to stream
broadcast-quality HD/SD video with up to
50 percent bandwidth savings compared
to H.264. With the industry's best video
quality, bandwidth-efficient compression,
and advanced, built-in stream protection,
the MGW Ace guaranteed reliable video
distribution over any network, including the
Internet, with streaming latency down to just
70ms end-to-end.

Server, providing customers with an efficient
platform to manage, capture, and preview
IPTV-protected streams transmitted by VITEC

application. Complementing VITEC's pointto-point HEVC contribution ecosystem, the
server allows news and enterprise customers
to have encoders spread out globally that are
connected to one hub where all their streams
come together. From this central location,
customers have access to an intuitive matrix
that allows them to simply drag and drop the
input channel to any output in the network.
The server avoids the use of expensive and
more rigid fibre or satellite transmission
infrastructure,
dramatically
reducing
operating expenses (OPEX).
