Reliable Real-Time Transport Protocol
(R2TP) and Fast Files Transfer Protocol
(F2TP) enable secure, robust and easy-touse data transmission for the broadcast and
enterprise markets, even in the harshest of
network conditions. These two protocols are
based on Caton's independently developed
core technology, the Caton Engine. Leveraging
proprietary congestion control techniques, the
Caton Engine maximises Bandwidth Utilization
Ratio (BUR) over almost any given bandwidth.

Active network monitoring and a suite of
advanced, adaptive error correction algorithms
create a virtual management layer for any
data stream even across unmanageable open
internet environments.

Live Video Solutions
The need for dedicated leased line and satellite
solutions for broadcast video solutions has
changed significantly as the global internet
increases in bandwidth and coverage. Caton
provides a range of service levels depending

on a client's budget and requirements.
Broadcasters, content owners, educational
and other enterprises can now leverage all their
network options to deliver the highest quality
content (high bitrate, high-quality and stable
video streams over open IP networks), with
no compromises thanks to R2TP. Launched
in 2011, this suite of IP-based transport
solutions is designed specifically to solve QoS/
QoE problems for live video transmission over
any IP network. R2TP is the real-time video
profile of the Caton Engine with advanced ARQ
and Dynamic Error Correction for unstable
networks. Using active network monitoring
and an array of unique transport control
features like time stamp awareness and multiIO, this protocol is changing the way of video
transmission over the open Internet.

Accelerated File Transfer Solutions
Based on the foundations of Caton's R2TP
Engine, Caton Technology launched Cydex,

ecently, Caton was chosen to provide
the solution for live camera signals
transmission for GC2018 and to provide
managed services to Lotus TV transmission
from Macau to Hong Kong.
During April 2018, GC2018 welcomed
more than 6,600 athletes and team officials
from 70 Commonwealth nations and
territories. NEP Host Broadcast provided HD
television coverage from 18 venues along
with the opening and closing ceremonies.
NEP Host Broadcast was responsible for the
International Broadcast Centre (IBC), which
is the nexus of all GC2018 broadcasting
activity, handling incoming video and
audio from the venues and distributing it to
broadcast rights-holders' home countries.
NEP also won the contract to provide
IBC and venue facilities for the Australian
Rights Holder, the Seven Network. When
NEP needed to provide a solution for the
Australian Rights Holder to transport multiple
live HD signals over IP connections between
various venues and the IBC, they turned to
Digistor and Caton for the solution.
NEP's requirements were to send 10 HD

SDI videos along with up to eight audio
channels from multiple remote venues back
to the IBC, whilst simultaneously sending HD
SDI video and audio channels back from the
IBC to each of the remote locations.
To meet NEP's strict requirements, Digistor
designed an efficient, high performance
solution using Caton's Integrated Video
Processor (IVP) which is able to encode
and decode high bitrate and high frame
rate HD streams with very low latency (see
Fig.1.) The Caton Engine powered by R2TP
technology also ensured transmission
would be successful over any distance and
even over challenging networks. In total,
Digistor supplied NEP with 20 Caton IVP3000 video processors, each one fitted
with a 422 H264 encoder and a 422 H264
decoder, as well as the required SMIP Caton
Engine module.
