Realise the Value of your Media Data Capital
As broadcasting mediums continue to evolve and we engage viewers with rich media
content across a range of platforms and delivery methods, we can also generate and
retain valuable information about the usage of that content. Airline loyalty programs
generate more profit than the airline operations. So too we can learn how leveraging
the information generated during the consumption of media content can lead to
highly valuable Data Capital. This session will investigate the tools used by media
companies to improve user experience and enable broadcasters to succeed with
digital transformation.
Charles Sevior, Chief Technology Officer, Unstructured Data Solutions, Dell EMC

9.30am

Harnessing Viewer's Data To Minimise Churn and Grow Content
To gain insights on the viewership patterns and turn them into market segments that
can be targeted with ads to drive revenues. How do you find customers at high risk
for churn? How do you apply viewership forecasts to gain additional insights for
programming negotiations?
David Ross, Head of Revenue & Payments, SKY TV

A (Not So) Brief History Of UHDTV
To many it feels like the launch of Ultra HD has been going on for some years now
and there is no light at the end of the tunnel yet. Year after year CE manufacturers have
hurried ahead with ever new features providing more, better and faster pixels, always
leaving content providers with the challenge of catching up with respective substance
while standards bodies were still struggling to clinch the necessary paperwork.
The high speed of the innovation cycle and the lack of synchronisation between
the market actors involved have created various problems, many resulting in
interoperability issue for the consumer. The German TV Platform together with
the Digital Television Group (DTG) in the UK has tried to address at least some of
these complications by organizing bi-annual UHD Plugfests in Europe since 2014.
The session will address some of the lessons learned from those events while also
providing a high-level retrospect of the ongoing UHDTV launch to date.
Stephan Heimbecher, Chairman WG Ultra HD & Board Member, German TV Platform

Social Media Analysis using Deep Learning Technology
Social media is an important news source for reporters. Eye-witnesses can take
photos and videos of what they observe and post them online. The posted content is
important primary information that is sought after by reporters. Posts on social media
are often written in colloquial style and include a lot of slang, abbreviations, and emoji.
These aspects make searching by traditional query-based retrieval difficult. NHK has
been developing an important information extraction system to automatically parse
social media. Our system analyses the text of social media in real time using deep
learning technology. The system classifies information into news categories.
