BroadcastAsia: Can you give us a
brief overview of what we can expect
in the next six to 12 months within your
sector?
Sebastian Schaffrath: In the field
of signal processing, we are certain
that the development of softwaredefined processing will continue to
gain momentum. The use of SMPTE
ST2110 in various projects in 2018
is going to deliver results in more
installations and projects worldwide
that we will use to further enhance our
SMPTE ST2110 compatible products.
We see a growing demand for small
devices to convert signals into SMPTE
ST2110 and vice-versa as the transition
from SDI to IP-centric environments

BCA: What challenges did you face
when announcing these products?
SS: Even though consumers are
familiar with using APPs on their
smartphones and have been for years,
the concept of working with softwarebased APPs is new to our market.
Our customers are learning to work
with APPs as it relates to the signal
processing chain. Once the concept is
fully understood, the additional benefits
of building functionality by adding and
changing APPs become obvious.

Demand from large-scale global sports
events has led to development of the new
greenMachine Testor APP, a four-channel 3G
test generator with a set of pre-defined and
customisable test signals and patterns. This
allows users to replace multiple hardware
test signal generators, saving money, space
and power consumption. Operators have
the opportunity to insert text, custom and
user-defined graphics as well as static
and dynamic test signals & patterns and
place them in a real preview image in our
greenGUI.
Our new yellobrik CQS 1441 addresses
the challenge of integrating 4K signals into
a 3G SDI based infrastructure, a central
requirement in many of today's applications.
We have discovered that many customers
have not yet started their IP migration,
however still need to work with UHD / 4K
signals; e.g. in sports production. OB van
engineers are challenged with the task to
integrate 4K cameras into their 3G SDI
based infrastructure in the truck. The
CQS 1441 is a small-footprint LYNX
Technik yellobrik module enabling users
to convert a single-link 12G SDI signal
to 4x 3G SDI quad-links. It also provides
fibre support so that 12G signals can be
transported via fibre.

BCA: Which territories do you think
will show particular interest?
SS: Asia has proven to be a very active
market for us and Europe is traditionally
very strong. For our yellobrik lines of
products, the U.S. has seen strong
growth for several years. Our customers
are planning their investments for the
upcoming years, with some revolving around
global sports events and others around
plans for new infrastructures in IP. LYNX can
accommodate all these different requirements
with our extensive current and future signal
processing product lineup.
BCA: Any future innovations ahead that
you can discuss?
SS: We see great potential in softwarebased processing as a future-proof concept
for existing SDI infrastructures as well as
IP-based systems. Decentralisation of this
software-based processing power most
certainly will drive broadcast product
development.
