DDP Changes Everything - Again
EndemolShine Australia creates some of
Australia's largest television programmes...

rom The Biggest Loser to Gogglebox to
Australian Ninja Warrior, we have lots of
editors and lots of media, and always pressure
to get programmes to network quickly," said
Ben Trinder, Technical Supervisor - Post
Production.
"Back in 2013, EndemolShine Australia
(ESA) started looking at DDP as a solution
to augment our existing Avid ISIS storage
investment. Not a decision to be taken lightly,
in 2015 we took delivery of
our two-chassis system and
had production work rolling
off it less than two weeks later.
More than 30 editing, audio and
graphics stations all connect
to the DDP across our existing
infrastructure.
"The primary factors in our
decision were: bulk shared
storage at a competitive price,
seamless use from our Avid
Media Composer platform
(including the ability to use
alongside ISIS), simple bolton JBOD expansion, simple

infrastructure requirements and compatibility
with any/all other applications we might throw
at it. ESA use our DDP for high-res media
storage and playback, mastering directly from
the shared volumes.
"It is a real-workhorse with minimal
management - we can run multiple
productions with appropriate security.
All workspaces across a production can
share capacity without having to constantly
reallocate (or can be set on a
fixed quota), and Archiware P5
integrates directly to ensure
volumes are always backed up
externally for security.
"We've had the DDP in use
24x7 since the day it went
in. It's never had a hardware
failure and it has gone over 12
months without even a reboot.
