SUNTEC SINGAPORE

An Exciting Future Awaits
We have worked hard to
pull the three events together over the two
venues (Suntec Singapore and Marina Bay
Sands). ConnecTechAsia gives our exhibitors
one single package, but two presences at the
show.
BCA: Is there anything that could be
improved?
CK: We continually need to learn and engage
with our audience to make our event the best
it can be. Asia is currently undergoing a
changing digital landscape and it has been
continued from page 1..

good to bring the latest next-generation
technology to the region. Shortly, we will be
engaging with our stakeholders to discuss the
event and plan for the future. The Internet of
Things (IoT), AI and a focus on smart cities
has worked well at BroadcastAsia and we
would like to see this apply to our sector in
even more ways.
BCA: What have been your personal
highlights of BroadcastAsia?
CK: For me, I really enjoyed the inclusion
of the esports tournament and presenting

this technology to our guests. The Big Bang
at NXTAsia was also a new experience,
highlighting disruptive solutions and ideas
from the leading minds in AI and robotics.
BCA: What can visitors expect for 2019?
CK: At the moment, it is too early to say
but we will continue to build on this year and
bring more next-gen technology to our visitors
and exhibitors alike.

Radio's New Wave

Following the Chairman's
welcoming address, Grant Cameron, Chief
Executive Officer of Grant Broadcasters
Media, gave the opening Keynote address
Road Map of Radio Broadcasting.
The session delved into the future trends of
behaviours of listeners and Cameron called
for a "clear roadmap" so that the future of
radio can be navigated successfully.
Cathy O'Connor, Chief Executive Officer
at Nova Entertainment, also delivered
the session Looking Beyond Radio: How
Can Radio Stations Benefit from Evolving
Platforms?
Nova Entertainment, as one of Australia's
largest commercial radio networks, has
undergone significant transformation in recent
years and delivered profit and revenue growth
well ahead of its market.
Key to this success has been the evolution
continued from page 1..

of the company from a radio company to
a multi-platform entertainment business.
The changes to the radio landscape with
the emergence of digital platforms, and how
radio companies can meet these challenges
in a way that ensures business growth was
prominent throughout Cathy's speech.
She said: "We need to have brands that
are bigger than the radio stations that define
them... We are extending our business
strategy beyond radio."
In Asia Pacific, broadcasters have realised
that they need to move to the more efficient
platform of digital radio, with countries
looking to DAB+.
Fittingly, DAB+ Developments in APAC was
the topic of Joan Warner's discussion which
focused on the latest developments in the
region and the rest of the world, as well as the
progress being made on DAB+ transmission

and receiver equipment.
Other speakers to participate in Radio's New
Wave included Aaron Pinto, Network Content
Manager at Astro Radio who looked at how
radio can evolve to include the tastes and
preferences of Generation Z and Millennials
to continue to lead music discovery and
audience impact for advertisers; while
Nick Piggott, Project Director, Radio DNS,
discussed how broadcasting is a relevant
and valuable technology for radio and how it
continues to develop new functionality that
creates better experiences for listeners.
