Driving Technological Changes
In its inaugural year, ConnecTechAsia delivers three events in
one; BroadcastAsia, CommunicAsia and the new NXTAsia...

O

f the 1,800 exhibitors attending, just over
two-thirds are from Asia with a significant
number from the Southeast Asian region.
During his welcome remarks Mr. M Gandhi,
Group Managing Director (ASEAN Business)
and Vice President, UBM Asia, said that this
interesting statistic reflected the region's rapid
digitalisation.
With such a fast-changing business sector
and rapidly emerging (and immersive)
technologies, the line between the various
industries - that is, telecoms, media
and technology - has become blurred.
As highlighted throughout the Opening
Ceremony, the technology deployed has not
only caused disruption, but also provided
opportunities.
As the "emergence of new technologies
continues to redefine our world," said Mr.
Gandhi, "ConnecTechAsia will stay true to

its vision-latest innovations, knowledge and
wisdom that can enable business and to be
smarter, more proactive and effective for all of
us."

is set to be the only business platform
in the region that will cover the entire
spectrum of communications and emerging
technologies, sectors and the broadcast
industry. Mr. Gandhi said NXTAsia is intended
to represent the nature of the dynamic
business landscape that is increasingly
being disrupted by new technologies on the
horizon; while CommunicAsia has focused
on the latest technologies such as 5G, which
is expected to roll-out as early as next year.
BroadcastAsia, meanwhile, has explored
technologies that are driving change for
traditional broadcasters such as UHD, OTT
platforms, live production and 4K and 8K.

The pace of this change was also discussed
by Guest of Honour Mr. S Iswaran, the new
Minister for Communications and Information

Asian First for Esports Tournament in Singapore
T

he inaugural Southeast Asia League (SEAL)
tournament has launched at BroadcastAsia
2018.
WeOne, a Blockchain-based
esports tournament and gaming
platform, together with esports
organiser Cresmos, is hosting its
first live esports tournament SEAL
in Singapore.
The tournament is being held
throughout BroadcastAsia 2018,
Asia's top industry event for
pro-audio, film, digital media and
broadcasting, organised by UBM.

Staged at BroadcastAsia's Esports Arena
Studio, the first SEAL series tournament will

see three days of card-slinging action as
competitive Hearthstone players battle it out
for cash prizes worth SGD$2,500.
