Caton Technology maintains a close
partnership with world-class telecom
company PCCW Global...

he companies jointly exhibit at major
tradeshows and other events, and are
continuing this strategic partnership during
ConnecTechAsia 2018.

relationship with PCCW Global continuing
at ConnecTechAsia," said Dr. Karl So, Vice

will be present on the PCCW Global booth,
demonstrating a flexible and efficient
workflow using the Caton Engine over the
PCCW Global GTVN.
The Caton solution, combined with
PCCW Global's GTVN from Hong Kong to
a Singapore Point of Presence (PoP), uses
Open IP transmission by Caton Technology
to resolve the last mile bottleneck from the
PoP to the PCCW Global booth. It is often
very costly to obtain a dedicated network

for such a short period of time, but with the
Caton Engine we are able to use Open IP to
complete the last mile and greatly reduce
the network cost without compromising the
video quality."
The Caton Engine is a proven technology
in the transmission industry with global
deployments with Telecom and global
broadcast partners. There are sophisticated
networking technologies within the Caton
Engine that provide a more reliable video
transmission over Open IP compared to other
protocols.
Dr. So continued: "We have spent years of
development on transmission technologies
in the areas of dynamic error correction and
ARQ which makes open IP transmission very
effective.

understand transmission is all about real
time, low latency, and of course, reliability.
This level of understanding makes the Caton
Engine the most efficient solution compared
to other open source transport protocols."
The Caton Engine runs on Caton products
including the multi-function modular
processor IVP-3000, as well as Caton Relay
Servers that act as unique core components
to form a video contribution network. Caton
is also displaying its new Network Monitoring
System (NMS) along with an update to
the Caton Relay Server. A new version of

Caton's file transfer solution, Cydex, for
managing large file transfers is also being
demonstrated.
There are known challenges using Open
IP for broadcast-level transmission. As an
unmanaged network, there is often up to
30% packet loss between Hong Kong and
Singapore. But, as demonstrated at the
Caton booth 4R2-05 and the PCCW Global
booth at CommunicAsia (1K2-01), this
game changing technology masters these
challenges.

PXW-FS5 II delivers
4K HDR and 120fps performance

PRC, Shangdong TV PRC among others, to
deliver IP-based 4K ecosystems. Against the
backdrop of substantial migration where big
projects, studios, trucks and applications
are making use of IP, or have IP at their core,
Sony has recently introduced the HDCU-3100
camera control unit, which is capable of
supporting SMPTE ST 2110, with support for
NMOS IS-04/05 in the future scope.
