RICHARD SPENDS SIX MONTHS OF
THE YEAR VOLUNTEERING IN GOA

Richard Lees, a private tutor,
has been fascinated by India
since childhood. He spent his
gap year there and fell in love
with the country even more.
Six years ago, after visiting
Goa as a tourist many times,
Richard decided to set up a
charity to encourage people
from the UK to volunteer
in Goa and help the area's
poorest children - some as
young as five.
'The aim of Volunteering
Goa is to recruit volunteers
to assist in orphanages and
children's homes throughout
Goa and Western India,' says
Richard. 'The volunteers offer
all sorts of everyday services
that we take for granted.
Some people teach while
others help with childcare,
homework, supervising days
out. We've also organised
football and cricket sessions
and run art classes, too.'
