since the late 18th century.

THE HANGING
BRIDGE
Through the impressive Grand
Cathedral sits the
Hanging Bridge. The
bridge, an ancient
monument dating
back to 1421, has
two arches and was
built using sandstone.
It is 108ft long and
9ft wide and formed
part of Manchester's
medieval defences. It
was excavated in the
1880s and hidden
until 100 years
ago. It was
restored
in 2002.

THE PANKHURST
CENTRE
Visit the birthplace of the
suffragette movement, the
home of Emmeline Pankhurst,
which now houses a small
museum and heritage centre. The
legacy to the family also houses
a women's community centre.
