Sabrina Shah-Desai specialises in ophthalmic plastic, lacrimal and cancer reconstructive surgery, with a private practice in London and Essex. Her NHS practice is based at Queen’s Hospital, where she is head of the oculoplastics division. Ms Shah-Desai specialises in both cosmetic eyelid surgery and non surgical cosmetic facial rejuvenation procedures. I’m thrilled with my new look.’ BEFORE AFTER Early intervention Ms Shah-Desai performed a ‘blepharoplasty’ (eye bag removal procedure) on her patient, Maureen Hutchins, whose upper lids were sagging. ‘Usually patients leave this procedure to be performed very late in life,’ says Ms ShahDesai. ‘It should be done to impart rejuvenation rather than a dramatic change of facial expression. Mid 40s to 50s is the right time, so Maureen was just about the right age. ‘Done well, a blepharoplasty leaves you “looking visibly youthful” for the next 10 to 20 years, and goes a long way in slowing progressive sagging in the peri ocular area.’ The anti-ageing package starts at an early age, with skin requiring professional assistance by gradually and subtly, with no incisions. Surgical rejuvenation is best left for dealing with true sagging tissues, and she is amazed at how many young adults choose to get cheap treatments by people who may not be properly trained. ‘A lot of people want to look like celebrities, but producing natural looking results requires formal training and expertise,’ she says.
