JOBS & CAREERS SPRING 2018 - 85

SPRING 2018

"As a gay man and
somebody who's
not from a financial
background, I still
feel I can make
a contribution to
the company"
DUNCAN, WEB EXPERIENCE
COORDINATOR
working with Chwarae Teg, the company
encouraged around 80 of its female staff
to take advantage of the Agile Nation 2
career development programme. This
aims to improve the standing of women
in businesses across Wales, offering
free access to training and enabling
them to build the skills, confidence and
knowledge to boost their careers.
As a result, many of these women
gained promotion within Principality,

while others moved on to senior positions
in other companies. At the end of the
programme, Principality invited the
participants to a graduation celebration.

Taking Pride in diversity

Celebrating diversity is a key part of
Principality's approach. In 2017, it took
part in Pride Cymru for the first time. At
the Cardiff head office, each floor adopted
a colour from the rainbow flag and people
were encouraged to wear rainbow dress.
Several colleagues also took part in the
Cardiff Pride parade and there was a
Principality "showeroke" booth, where
people could sing and get a fun photo.

Supporting mental health

Principality realises that diversity and
inclusion cover a range of issues. As a Time
to Change Wales pledged organisation,
it has a commitment to tackling mental
health stigma and discrimination. The
company has its own Time to Change
Champion and several support groups.
Mental health awareness played a big
role in a Health & Wellbeing week in
2017. Employees organised a Time to Talk
day, which involved getting people away
from their desks for a lunchtime walk.
The company also highlighted internal
support services and encouraged people
to nominate inspiring colleagues.
