BECOME A LEADER
Our own senior vice president,
Martin Riley, is a great example
of our approach to training and
progression.
Martin started his career as a higher
apprentice nearly thirty years ago, working
his way through a variety of roles to
lead the business. His success embodies
our commitment to building careers
and nurturing talent. Martin remains a
passionate advocate of apprentices and
careers in this sector.
"As a teenager, if
somebody had told
me I'd be running the
business I joined as
an apprentice thirty
years ago, I wouldn't
have believed them. I
understand first-hand
how apprenticeship
opportunities can build the foundations of
a long-term, fulfilling careerĀ path.
I'm extremely proud to be leading Tarmac.
If you're someone who really wants to
make your mark and grow in a career that
gives you new challenges each day, then
I'd encourage you to apply for a job with
us. We are always looking for people who
share our passion, dedication and ambition
to be the best in the UK."

LIAM OWEN TRAINEE SUPERVISOR
I joined Tarmac in 2014 as a management apprentice, and in
2016 I won Apprentice of the Year at a national awards scheme,
which I'm very proud of. My work is a good mix of management
and technology, learning the people skills I need while working
with cutting-edge innovations. Most recently, I've helped to put
robotics into roads through implementing Tarmac's automated paving technology,
which has been used on major highways projects such as the Morpeth Northern
Bypass. The exposure to a variety of different roles in the sector has been great,
highlighting the diversity of careers available in this industry.

OLIVIA WILLINGHAM
COMMERCIAL HIGHER APPRENTICE
I'm based at Tarmac's Tunstead quarry, and I'm currently
working on the design and launch of an exciting new website
that will help our customers identify the solutions they need to
use to create some of the UK's biggest infrastructure projects.
I'm a people person, so I enjoy talking to customers and helping
them find the perfect product. Travelling is another highlight of
the job, and I'm proud to represent Tarmac at events like trade
shows all over the country. The company is supporting me to study for a Commercial
Management Degree Apprenticeship and I've have already gained professional
qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Management - all while earning a salary
and gaining invaluable hands-on experience.

SIMON PANTER SITE MANAGER
I was an army warrant officer before joining Tarmac as a site
manager at the Finningley plant, near Doncaster. It's thanks
to Tarmac's work with the Career Transition Partnership that
I've found a civilian job where I can repurpose my skills - for
example, the company's focus on safety aligns perfectly with
my experience in the forces. There's also a strong culture of
ongoing development, and I'm keen to undertake more training
to continue to progress. With the right support, it's never too late to change career,
regardless of your background.
