Eurostar's journey to
providing the best possible
customer experience
starts with its diverse
and multi-talented staff

A

s you would expect from
a company that operates
across four countries -
UK, France, Belgium and
the Netherlands - Eurostar has always
been a diverse company. Our employees
come from 35 nations and speak a
range of languages beyond French and
English. And we're not limited to Europe,
either - our biggest growing markets
are in Asia and North America, where
we are increasingly attracting large
numbers of customers to our services.

But despite our diversity, we recognise
there is still work to do. While we, like
many other businesses have work to
do to close our gender pay gap, we are
committed to addressing this issue and
have a comprehensive plan in place.
One of the challenges we face is the
higher pay awarded to traditional maledominated roles such as train drivers.
This isn't an issue unique to Eurostar;
it's one that affects the rail industry as
a whole. One of the problems Eurostar
faces in recruiting female drivers is the
need for experience on high-speed lines,
which means we must recruit from
other train companies. However, we are
exploring the option of an apprenticeship
for drivers to train up train managers,
which will enable us to invest in our
own employees and allow more women
access to this development opportunity.

In 18 months,
the percentage
of women in our
IT division has
increased from
6% to 10% - a
figure we want to
continue to grow
