CHARITY

Lend
a hand
Marketing officer
A charity's income, from the
smallest public donation to
lucrative sponsorships, depends
on its name and cause being
in people's minds, which is
where marketing comes in.
This area also includes the
job of celebrity liaison officer,
which will see you managing
relationships with the famous
faces promoting your cause.
What skills and qualifications
do I need? A PR or marketing
qualification will stand you
in good stead, as will having
some marketing or journalism
experience. Media contacts
are particularly useful.
How much can I earn? An officer
will make £25,000 to £30,000;
non-graduates could start as a
marketing or communications
assistant on around £16,000.

Campaigns assistant
If you truly care for a cause,
campaigning is for you. A
campaigns assistant has various
responsibilities - from writing
emails and press releases, to
creating material for online
campaigns and liaising with
fundraisers - all of which are
dedicated to developing, launching
and promoting campaigns.
Assistants can work their way
up to campaigns manager, a role
that has responsibility for analysing

the effectiveness of campaigns
and developing future strategies.
What skills and qualifications
do I need? You'll need excellent
communication skills and to be
confident using online tools,
especially social media. In fact,
you may find these skills more
important than a degree.
How much can I earn? Salaries
start at £16,000 to £20,000
for an assistant, increasing to
£40,000 or more for a manager.

Corporate
fundraiser
You'll be securing contributions
from companies and developing
relationships to ensure longterm funding. This may mean
organising events, making
presentations, recruiting
volunteers, designing business
plans and working closely
with campaigns, as well as PR,
marketing and promotion.
What skills and qualifications
do I need? Any degree will
give you an advantage when
applying, and experience in
marketing is useful. Courses in
fundraising are also available.
How much can I earn? A
full-time fundraiser can earn
anything from £22,000 to
£40,000, depending on
the size of the charity.
