JOBS & CAREERS SPRING 2018 - 225
"I joined Heron
Foods when I was 18
as a stores assistant. Within seven
months I was promoted to senior
sales assistant (supervisor). I was then
promoted to deputy manager, then
store manager, and then on to a
higher turnover store. Two years later,
I was made area manager and I'm now
senior area manager.
"I've attended numerous Heron
Foods training and development
programmes along the way. With the
business growing rapidly, it will
provide more opportunities for me to
develop and progress. Who knows
what my next role might be!"
"I started at Heron
Foods as payroll
administrator and was
soon assisting the HR manager. With her
support, I got involved in other areas. I
advised in-store staff with HR queries and
was promoted to regional HR adviser.
"I was in this role for 18 months before
going on maternity leave. Shortly after
returning, I was promoted to HR business
partner for our warehouse and transport
departments. The new role allowed me
to transfer my experience and make
improvements within the departments.
"I'm now the HR business partner for
our transport department. Working with
them allows me to contribute to the
continued success of the business."
"I joined Heron on
a youth training
scheme. My career since has
flourished - I passed my driving test
and later gained my HGV class 1
licence and became a delivery driver.
"This gave me great insight into
logistics. I felt the knowledge I'd
gained could help the transport office
and warehouse operation. With
Heron's support I became transport
manager, and passed a Certificate of
Professional Competence. Heron has
provided training, opportunities and
promotions. If it sees talent, it likes to
keep it - great people give the
company a real advantage."
