JOBS & CAREERS SPRING 2018 - 224
As it expands, Heron Foods
has fresh opportunities in
store and at its store support
and distribution centre
iscount food retailer Heron Foods,
predominantly based in the north
and Midlands, has experienced
significant growth in recent
years. It was ranked 11th in The Grocer's
Top 50 Independent Grocery Retailers in
2017, and its acquisition by B&M Bargains
in August 2017 has provided additional
investment to support further growth.
The business plans to open 30 stores in
2018, in addition to six store relocations
and 10 refurbishments. This expansion
will generate around 500 new jobs in
stores, plus numerous opportunities in the
company's store support and distribution
centre in Melton, East Riding of Yorkshire.
"Heron Foods is always looking for
enthusiastic candidates with potential,"
says Fiona Dawson, Heron Foods' head
of HR. "Succession planning is key to
our success and we endeavour to provide
progression opportunities for all." This
is achieved through in-house training.
With plans to open stores in new regions,
the recruitment team is keen to attract
local talent with strong retail backgrounds.
It hopes to find strong food retail managers
who can support business growth while
developing existing junior managers.
This is supported by the in-house
Future Flyers development programme,
which is designed to enable junior staff
to progress to store management.
"This isn't just about opportunities
in stores," says Fiona. "Whether you're
looking for a career in logistics, warehouse
management, finance, property, HR or IT,
there are opportunities at Heron Foods."
Heron Foods boasts an outstanding
team and is always looking for new talent.
"At Heron Foods we're proud to provide
high value to customers and employment
opportunities for local people," says
Fiona. "If colleagues show potential
and have the drive to achieve, there
really is nothing holding them back."
