I need? Most campaign

degree or diploma in

Personal
shopping
consultant
Luxury department
stores employ personal
shoppers, who get to
know customers' tastes
and budgets, and help
them find the right
clothes, handbags,
jewellery and
furnishings. Your job is
to boost sales - you'll
have targets to meet,
plus admin for payment,
dispatch and returns.
What qualifications do I
need? A background or
qualifications in fashion
or design would be
helpful. For luxury retail,
you need to look
impeccable, have great
communication skills, be
confident working with
VIPs and have an eye
for style. An awareness
of cultural differences is
also important for
international clients.
How much can I earn?
Salaries start at
£14,000, rising to
£25,000 for high-end
retail - more with your
own consultancy.

Visual
merchandiser
Visual merchandisers
design and create
displays within stores
and shop windows to
showcase products and
encourage sales, and
help build the image of
a luxury brand. You'll
create designs, source
props and dress
mannequins, and with
experience you can
become a manager, set
up your own business,
or move into exhibitions
or interior design.

What qualifications
do I need?
Qualifications in art,
design or retail design
are an advantage, and
some apprenticeships
are available. You
need to be creative
and imaginative, and
technical drawing
skills are helpful. The
job can be physically
demanding.

How much can I
earn? Salaries start
at £12,000 but can
rise to £60,000 in the
poshest luxury stores.

If you work as an
art consultant you'll
be employed by
individuals, businesses
and interior designers to
choose and buy artwork
for their homes, offices,
hotels, public spaces,
private collections and
events. You will get to
know clients' tastes
and budgets, advise on
purchases, and work
with auction houses and
galleries to source or
commission pieces. You
may also arrange the
framing and installation
of purchases.
What qualifications
do I need? Most art
consultants have a
degree in art or history
of art. You'll also need
in-depth knowledge
of the latest trends in
the art scene, a great
eye for interior design,
have good business
sense and be able to
network and build
contacts in the industry.
How much can I
earn? Salaries for
trainees start from
around £19,000, but
with experience can
rise to £80,000.

Merchandise
allocator
An allocator is
responsible for ensuring
the correct quantities
of new products are
available in stores,
based on sales history,
geographical variation,
past performance and
forecast trends. This
involves monitoring
sales and stock levels,
preparing analysis,
and arranging stock
distribution. It's
fast-paced and you'll
liaise with marketing
managers, buyers,
suppliers, distributors
and stores across
the business.
What qualifications do
I need? A qualification
in merchandise
marketing or fashion
merchandising is an
advantage for luxury
retail. You'll need to be
analytical and highly
organised, with strong
commercial awareness
of the sector, and the
ability to work well
under pressure.
How much can I earn?
Salaries start at £15,000,
rising to £60,000
with experience.
