The proportion of working-age mothers
with a job has risen by nearly 50%
in the past four decades, according
to a study by the Institute for Fiscal
Studies. The proportion of mothers
aged 25-54 in paid work grew from
50% in 1975 to 72% in 2015. The IFS
credited the rise to a "huge change in
working patterns", with women much
less likely to stop work when they have
children. The increase in maternal
employment has been most noticeable
among partners of higher-earning men.

is a vast improvement on 2017, when the
increase was just 1%. A study, carried out
by not-for-profit member organisation the
Institute of Student Employers, found that
the public sector is expected to see the biggest
number of graduate vacancies gains, with a
22% increase. IT and utilities firms will also
offer plenty of graduate opportunities, seeing
vacancies rise by 18% and 13% respectively.
