ccording to the Office for
National Statistics, the
population of the UK is getting
older, with 18% of the population aged
65 or over and 2.4% aged 85 and over.
Indeed, the number of people over 85
increased by almost one-third over the
last decade and predictions are for that
figure to more than double over the next
two decades, a reflection of improved
healthcare and healthier lifestyles.
This means the UK's care industry is
big business. Official figures estimate
that the number of paid social adult care
roles could increase from the current 1.52
million to between 1.82 and 2.34 million
by 2025, a rise of between 20% and 54%
in just a few years. Attracting, recruiting
and retaining new employees in the sector
will become more important than ever.
