This job is all about looking at
blood and blood-forming tissues,
and diagnosing disorders of the
blood and bone marrow. You could
be looking into diseases such as
sickle-cell anaemia, leukaemia,
haemophilia and anaemia, as well
as blood transfusions and the
provision of blood.
What qualifications do I need? If
you have at least two or three good
A-levels including science subjects,
you can apply for the NHS
Practitioner Training Programme
(PTP) by undertaking a BSc degree
in healthcare science (blood
sciences). If you have a degree in a
relevant subject, you can apply for a
place on the NHS scientist training
programme.
How much can I earn? Expect a
starting salary of £22,128, rising to
£41,787 as a qualified clinical
scientist and up to £100,431 as a
consultant healthcare scientist.
