Paramedic

In this high-pressure job, you'll often be one of the first healthcare
professionals to arrive at the scene of an emergency. A paramedic is
usually the most senior of a two-person ambulance crew, supported
by an assistant or technician. You may also be required to give advice
to patients over the telephone, or use an emergency response car to
get to an emergency.
What qualifications do I need? There are two main options: you
need either a full-time approved qualification in paramedic science,
which you complete at university, or you can become a student
paramedic with an ambulance service. You would then be required
to study while you work.
How much can I earn? A paramedic's salary starts at £22,128,
rising to £35,577 after two years.

Art therapist

People can be encouraged to deal
with emotional and behavioural
issues through art. A therapist
helps them to create art in a variety
of ways, such as painting, collage,
drawing in sand, creating a visual
journal, sculpting in clay or using
chalks and crayons to build selfconfidence and self-awareness.
You'll work with a range of ages,
in the NHS, schools, colleges,
prisons or in private practice.
What qualifications do I need?
As well as professional experience
in therapy or healthcare (such as
nursing or social care), you'll need
a postgraduate qualification in art
therapy and to be registered with
the Health & Care Professions
Council. Most therapists also have
a degree in art or a similar subject.
How much can I earn? Salaries
start at around £26,500, but this
depends on your employer. Many
therapists are self-employed.
