Bernardo Moya on how one book changed his life,
and encouraged him to help others to change theirs

ou may have read a book that
stayed with you long after it
finished. But did you ever read a
book that genuinely changed your life? I did.
It was Paul McKenna's Change Your Life In
Seven Days. Twice, I've lost everything, only
to build it back up. And this book played a key
role in me turning things around once and for
all. What's more, I've since got to know Paul
personally and now help run his courses,
while also running my own leading personal
development business, The Best You.
It all started in Spain in 2004. I owned a
real estate company there at the time, with
nearly 30 staff. While I wasn't that interested
in neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), I did
know Paul's right-hand man, Simon Slater. So
one day I bought Paul's book at an airport to
see what he was all about. I didn't expect
it to be as good as it was and I told
Simon I'd like to attend one of
Paul's seminars.

I was sceptical, something propelled me to
go. And, sure enough, by day three I thought,
'Bloody hell. I'm in my mid-30s. I thought I
was quite knowledgeable.'
That course had such an impact on me, I
knew almost immediately I wanted to stop
working in real estate and become a better
version of Paul McKenna (joking!) for the
Spanish speaking market. Paulo McKenna,
if you will.

STARTING OVER
From nowhere, Paul (through Simon) asked
if I would like to take over organising his live
events in London, as he was moving to the US.
But at the time, I wasn't keen - I wanted to be
like Paul, not continue what he'd started. It
was a big decision. However, I was heading for
bankruptcy - having lost all my money and
with my family almost out on the street,
I decided to start over again.
So, I met with Paul and Richard
Bandler (the co-developer of NLP)
and, for the last 10 years, I've been
their promoter and helped to
grow their brand.
I've also written my own books,
with my latest to be released in
2018, but my main focus is on
The Best You EXPOs: the annual
leading personal development
exhibitions in London and
California. They bring together
hundreds of brands and
individuals who are passionate
about making the world a
better place. I believe it's never
too late.
I've learned that whenever you
go into anything, you have to go
in with your complete heart. B

EYE OPENER
Now, bearing in mind that it
cost upwards of £2,000 for the
seven-day course and my realestate company was sinking,
it was a risk. Besides, I didn't
really think the course
would be for me - it all felt a
bit too American. High fiveing and shouting - that's
not my style. But, although
