FIND
YOUR
BALANCE
RING IN
THE CHANGES

New Year is
almost here.
What changes
will kick start
2018 for you?

DON'T GO CRAZY
Breaking your routine
doesn't necessarily mean
quitting your job or taking a
year off to go travelling. It
might simply mean making
more time for other activities
in your life. Just say 'no' to
people or social events that
don't add much to your life,
and spend that saved time
doing something new and
inspiring instead.

START SMALL
Minor changes such as
getting up 10 minutes earlier
to read in bed, having a bath
instead of a shower (or
vice versa), or even sitting
on the other side of the
dinner table can create a
feeling of change that
is invigorating.

MAKE MENTAL PIES
KELLY SHARMAN, 31,
Family Solicitor
I recently went through a
divorce but have now
reached a point where
things have settled down.
I've had to balance
personal life issues, which
can be hard and I think
that's what causes anxiety.
I do make resolutions but
usually really rubbish ones
like wear more lipgloss.
This year I feel like I
need to prioritise myself
a little bit more.

NICOLA
CHARALAMBOUS, 25,
Photographer
I made a resolution to
stop smoking this year
but I didn't stick to it. I
will most probably be
making exactly the same
one this year, but hoping I
do stick to it this time!
I feel like I need to pay
more attention to
learning a bit more about
religion and taking more
of an interest in the
spiritual side of life.

JAN POPELINKSY, 26,
Barista
I'm quite a happy person,
so don't tend to have too
many worries (although
I'm currently worried
about the pound currency
dropping more as I'm
from the Czech Republic.)
One area of my life I think
needs more attention is
self improvement. I don't
usually make resolutions
but I think this year I will
have to make one - to be
better at saving money.

It could be shepherd's, apple
and blueberry, or even a pie
chart. Each pie represents
elements of a happy life
- family, friends (including
lovers), work and health.
Your aim is to get a finger in
every pie. 'Each pie could
represent work, finances,
romance, friends and family,
spirituality, purpose,
environment, fun,' suggests
Lorna. 'Now ask yourself
how much emphasis have
you put into each one so
far.' Some pies get more
neglected than others
- and those are the ones
to focus on now. It's as
easy as, er, pie.
