Your relationship with sleep, like your
relationship with food, is deeply
personal. And whether or not someone
else is lying next to you in bed, it
represents a time of going inward and
being alone with yourself.
Sleep, for me, is an essential piece of housekeeping for the mind, body
and soul. Most of the great poets and playwrights have explored the
theme, notably Shakespeare, who wrote about the healing nature of sleep,
even comparing it to our final welcome resting place. Dreams, arguably,
can open you up to different levels of consciousness and can help you to
develop greater insight.
Chances are, sleep (or the lack of it) governs your life and mood on a
daily basis regardless of whether you are a new parent, a party-animal,
a shift-worker or a full-blown insomniac. And since we recognise the
importance of 40 winks, we decided to create an issue based on the
guidance of some of the world's leading sleep experts.
When all is said and done, it's amazing what a good night's sleep can
do. I sincerely hope we can bring you a little closer to that.
