These are dark days for the
dwindling bee population.
Given they pollinate around
80% of cultivated crops, this
is bad news for, you know,
mankind. However, an
unlikely saviour has arrived
in the form of Walmart, who
have taken out a patent on
robot bees to combat the
global problem known as
colony collapse disorder.
Robot bees? What could
possibly go wrong?

New facial recognition
software trialled by police
in Delhi, India, during April
helped identify nearly 3,000
missing children, with a
view to reuniting them
with their families. Having
scanned 45,000 youths
currently living in children's
homes, providing city police
are given free use of the
tech, it promises to reunite
thousands more families.

new study found story time
can help with attention
issues, aggression and
hyperactivity. Read all about

It can be tiresome hearing
which food is good for
combating what disease.
However, one story is like
an invigorating slap to
the face: Sylvia Hatzer, is
an 82-year-old suffering
with dementia so bad,
when she was taken to
hospital she thought she
was staying in a hotel.
However, her son Mark,
50, revealed a change
in diet has resulted in a
seismic shift in his mum.
"I slowly got my mum
back," says Mark. "Her
memory is improving all
the time. She's more alert
and engaged and basically
her old self." The key
foods to have done the
trick? Berries... Coke and
Mars Bars! Berries possess
antioxidant and antiinflammatory abilities,
while research says
blueberries can help with
learning and memory.
That's something worth
remembering.

The goodwill towards LEGO
(already high after the toys
and movies) is about to
go stratospheric. They've
announced a plan to become
eco-friendly by harnessing
renewable energy to power
its factories. Just a thought,
but solar panels built from
LEGO would be a massive
hit with the kids.

A DROP OF
DUTCH COURAGE
Ever wondered what
happens to all the plastic
dumped in the ocean?
No, it isn't eaten by magic
sharks; rather, it becomes
what is collectively
known as the Great Pacific
Garbage Patch, which
contains an estimated
1.8 trillion pieces (or
three members of the
Kardashian family. Boom!)
Now, The Ocean Cleanup,
a non-profit tech company
spearheaded by Dutch
inventor Boyan Slat, is
preparing to tackle the
problem with a specially
made contraption that will
see underwater screens
capture the plastic. Boyan,
who pitched his idea on
a Ted Talk six years ago,
says: "What I really hope is
the ocean clean-up in this
century can be a symbol
for us using technology
to make things better."
