e spend 93% of our life
indoors, so it makes
sense to believe the
quality of the buildings we inhabit
will have an impact on our health
and wellbeing. As buildings have
become more eco-friendly, this has
led to efforts to also make them more
beneficial to those who occupy them,
in terms of the quality of light, air
and water, among other criteria - a
trend known as Wellness Architecture.
In the work environment, this has
even been proven to boost worker
productivity and staff retention,
completing the virtuous circle. Now,
an office space in Slough is leading the
way in this field, becoming the first in
the UK to earn WELL Building Gold
Standard certification.
Slough, best-known for being a
byword for boredom in The Office,

Elizabeth Line station, the
five-floor block offers two
public restaurants, a communal
roof garden, 10 electric vehicle
charging points, space for 100
bikes, shower facilities and
lockers, all contributing to this
building's innovative approach

Absenteeism has fallen
to 20% below the norm at
the HQ of this multidisciplinary engineering
