has recently set the online
hit to a Hans Zimmer score.
Hopefully Mike isn't put
off turmeric for life, as
recent research says it could
improve both memory and
mood. So if Alzheimer's
is a particular cause for
concern, it's worth getting
more turmeric into your
diet. 'Exactly how curcumin
exerts its effects is not
certain,' says study author
Dr Gary Small, a director
of geriatric psychiatry at
UCLA, 'but it may be due
to its ability to reduce
brain inflammation, which
has been linked to both
Alzheimer's disease and
major depression.' We know
another cure for depression:

CATCH IT EARLY
Any men reading this
magazine might see the
words 'ovarian cancer' and
think 'This bit isn't for me.'
However, it very much is.
Research charity Ovarian
Cancer Action (ovarian.
org.uk) has launched a
new campaign called
Stolen Moments because
women who die from
ovarian cancer typically
lose 19 years of their lives.
If you (or, fellas, someone
you know) have been
suffering from persistent
stomach pain or bloating,
or a constant need to wee,
then it's time to see the
doctor. 'Almost half of
women diagnosed with
ovarian cancer in the UK
will die within five years,'
says Katherine Taylor,
Ovarian Cancer Action's
CEO. 'This is caused, in
part, by late diagnosis.
Screening for cervical
cancer has had a dramatic
impact on survival rates.
We urgently need to fund
research to do the same.'

There are lots of nice things
to talk about with your
family: treasured memories,
future holidays and, most
importantly, what's for tea?
Organ donation, however,
is probably not high on
the list of conversation,
although it's an important
chat to have. Organ donors
are, thankfully, on the rise,
4,753 life-saving transplants
performed in 2016/17 (up 4%
compared to the previous
year) while 50,000 people
are alive today thanks to
organ donation. Fitness
experts Nuyoo spoke to
former patient Charlotte
Davis, 24, who says:
'Without organ donation
I would have died at 18.
Everyone who has the
desire to sign up to the
register, I urge to do so and
please share your wishes
with your loved ones.' B
