you with bad posture, a thickening waist
and sponginess where there was once
firm squeezable flesh.
If you're trying for kids, you may
well be discovering your not-quite-soyouthful body isn't as geared up for
fertility as you thought (this is true for
men and women.)
Work is also draining, but this is no
time to give up because chances are,
you're paying off a mortgage - the
average first-time buyer in the UK is 30.
This may see you reaching for the
wine at the end of the day, to help you
relax. Good, right? Well, no. Alcohol
before bed makes good sleep harder to
come by. Research from the London
Sleep Centre shows that while a drink
might help you fall asleep more easily,
you'll experience less REM sleep, which
is restorative rest.

REPAIR:
FERTILITY If you're trying for a baby, you
might need to hit the gym, too. A study in
Obstetrics & Gynecology journal found
women who exercised half an hour or more
each day had less risk of infertility due to
ovulation disorders; moderate exercise has
also been shown to improve sperm quality.
FITNESS Your body is begging for exercise
right now, because many of the problems
you're suffering from are a result of not
getting enough. Being fitter will help you
sleep better, improve your mood, and you'll
also be more focused at work.
ENERGY Unclench your jaw for starters.

Your 30s are about finally appreciating
what you've got. Your self-esteem is now
based on your career, family, health and
friends, as well as appearance. But this
brings its own set of problems.
This is the decade you're most likely
to have young children - the average age
of new mums in the UK is 29, and two
thirds of babies are born to men over
30. And if you have got kids, it'll be hard
to find the time or energy to focus on
looking after yourself, which may leave

Nothing is more of an energy drain than
feeling stressed, so here's a way to tell your
body to relax. Lie on your back on the floor,
with your legs resting up on a wall (bringing
your bottom as close to the wall as is
comfortable). Stay in the position for up to
20 minutes. This yoga position (Viparita
Karani) takes your body out of 'fight or
flight mode'. In the legs up position your
parasympathetic nervous system kicks in,
ushering in a sense of calm, with serotonin
and gamma amino butyric acid (aka mother
nature's Xanax) being released. You'll feel
instantly re-energised.

ALCOHOL Your liver is still young enough to
regenerate, so cut down or give up. If giving
up isn't an option, try drinking your alcohol
warmer. Doing this means your taste buds
'sense' more of the flavour so you'll find it
easier to drink less. Finally, try milk thistle
supplements which contain silymarin, to
repair existing liver damage, and eat garlic
more regularly, too. This activates enzymes
to help flush out alcohol toxins.
