taking a trip down memory lane, finds Matt Majendie

Old school doesn't
necessarily mean the PE
classes you suffered in,
well, your old school.
Start with kettlebells
- for beginners the
advice is 16kg for men
and 8kg for women but
a range of weights is
probably the best way
to go. Wolverson Fitness

York Fitness Vinyl (from

has weights from 2kg20kg upwards.

Battling ropes are a blast from the
past but, in truth, few of us have
space at home big enough to use
them. Arguably the cheapest way
to take a fitness trip back in time is
with a skipping rope. Prices range
from the Gritin Speed Rope (from
£5.95, amazon.co.uk) to Beast Rope
Pro (£12.99, beastgear.co.uk) and
finally the top end of Golden Stallion's
wooden-handled version (£25,
