COLLAPSES

'We were on schedule
to exchange in a week
or two when the chain
collapsed: our buyer's
buyer pulled out. Would
we lose our house? A
condition of the discount had been a 28-day turnaround.
The developers weren't happy, but they stuck with us
and asked for an end-of-March exchange.
'Within three weeks, our buyers had found another buyer
from Brighton. By the end of February we were back on
track... then it suddenly went very quiet and we found out
our buyer's original buyer was back in the chain and the
Brighton people were out. This made everyone feel very
uneasy and our stress levels were o the scale.
'This kept going throughout March and April. We were
meant to exchange every week, but there was always a
di erent reason to stop it happening. I called the removals
company so many times to check their diary for the
following week... it was very stressful and unsettling.'
