'PLANTATION SHUTTERS WEREN'T
CHEAP, BUT THEY DO MEAN I CAN
HAVE PRIVACY AS WELL AS LIGHT'
wall to use as storage for her shampoo
bottles and soaps.
Her kitchen was created for her
by local company Crown Kitchens
who took account of her wish
for a minimal look.
The fridge originally belonged to
her mother. 'She bought it a while ago,
but it wouldn't fit into her kitchen and
so she stored it because she knew I'd
love to have it one day,' says Carly.
In her extension, Carly uses her
modular sofa to create a boundary
between the sitting and dining areas.
She sourced most of her furniture,
including her Eames-style rocking
chair, on eBay.
'It's my go-to place - the prices are
good and you can usually find what
you're looking for,' she says. Carly
accessorised with a sheepskin rug,
a kitsch hostess trolley, which she
bought for £15, and large houseplants.
Carly also built her own table and
seating. She experiments with creative
projects, too, fi ing metal hairpin legs
to a tree-stump she discovered and

sanded, to create the little side table
in her living area. She used the
recess in her bedroom to build a solid
clothes rail. 'It's so strong, you can
swing o it yourself!'
'I love going to new places, and
I have thousands of photos on my
phone of things I've seen to make
in the future,' she says.
'Although this place is my home,
it's also my testing ground and it
continues to inspires me every day.'
