SEX COULD HELP
YOU LIVE LONGER!
If ever you needed an excuse to grab some time between
the sheets, new research suggests that having sex
can help to slow the ageing process. Hooray! A study,
published in Psychoneuroendocrinology earlier this
year, analysed 129 mothers and found that those who
had sex at least once a week were likely to have longer
telomeres, which protect the DNA from deterioration.
This is a good thing, because as you get older the
telomeres on your chromosomes shorten, and the
shorter they are, the more likely you are to develop
a degenerative disease. So, longer telomeres could be
the key to longer life. More research is needed, but
having more sex in the meantime won't do any harm.
Are you always on the
go? Does your life feel too
frantic? You could have
rushing woman's syndrome,
according to author and
Dr Libby Weaver.
A lifestyle that feels too
hectic can lead to a chemical
cascade of the stress hormone
cortisol, says Dr Weaver,
which can hit particularly
hard during the menopause.
To slow down your life and
ease the impact of rushing
woman syndrome, try taking
up regular gentle exercise
such as yoga, spend time
by yourself and commit to
eating at least one extra
healthy meal each week.

Eating citrus fruits such as oranges every day
can reduce the risk of dementia by up to 25%,
according to scientists at Tohuku University in
Japan. This is because citric acid, also found
in lemons and grapefruit, contains nobiletin,
which slows memory deterioration.
