'I have always hated exercise but my
feelings about it changed two years
ago when a friend invited me to a
spinning class at my local gym.
'Having undergone two operations
on my shoulder and spinal injuries
ro an accident suffered ve years
previously, I had been comfort eating
ro the ain it had e
his ed to weight gain which e
me depressed and unable to sleep
properly. I was stuck in a downward
spiral where food seemed the solution
rather than the problem.
er being dragged to that rst
spinning class by my friend, I thought
had in ured y e vic floor as
was so sore from the saddle. However,
somehow there was something that
made me want to go back so I bought
a gel saddle and booked the next

class. I think it was the feeling I got
from pushing myself beyond what
I thought I could do (the so-called
endorphin high) combined with
the beats, the camaraderie and the
inspirational instructor that made
me have the urge to continue.
'There was something addictive
about seeing improvement in my
tness eve s ca abi ity and body.
er a ew c asses noticed an
overall reduction in the pain in my
body and I started losing weight. My
new tness regi e was addictive.
'For me it was hitting rock bottom
that forced me to change my routine
- and how it changed! My passion for
spinning ultimately led to a fantastic
opportunity to set up a club myself,
and so I created The CyClub with my
business partner Hils Bentwood.
'This has really been a life changer.
We both shared a crazy idea about
starting a pop-up so we could bring the
bene ts o s inning to everyone. wo
years on, we now have a permanent
home in north-west London with
more than 2,000 members.
'My greatest joy comes from seeing
other people go through the same
journey I did... whether they are
overcoming surgery, pregnancies,
cancer or weight issues. So many
people have embraced spinning as
they get older.
ithout a doubt the ain bene t
is not just physical, but psychological.
A spin class is a 45-minute emotional
release from stress, pressure and
anxiety. There is no doubt that it has
a massive impact on mood. Spinning
is my 'happy place' and I even seek out
places to spin abroad when I travel.'

ABOUT SEEING IMPROVEMENT IN MY
FITNESS LEVELS, CAPABILITY AND BODY'
