THE PROBLEM: As well as lines and wrinkles appearing,
the skin of the face becomes duller as you age. Another
problem is that your skin starts to lose volume and firmness
over time, resulting in a sagginess and drawn look, which
makes you look older, and tired.
THE TREATMENT: The Pyramid Facelift offers dermal
volumisation, skin tightening and resurfacing in a one-hour
treatment. Using the Lipofirm Pro device, three hi-tech
methods are combined for excellent results: trifractional
radiofrequency energy rejuvenates the outer epidermis
layer, removing old and damaged skin cells; muscle
stimulation aids the body to naturally produce hyaluronic
acid, new collagen and elastin, as well as lifting the jowl
area; while the heat generated through resistance causes
collagen fibres to contract.
It's not painful and there is no redness to worry about
immediately after treatment. This all-round wonder
treatment creates an immediate skin tightening effect that
improves over time, too. A course of six is recommended for
best results, although improvement can be seen after one
session, and maintenance is recommended.

removed at the end of the treatment, you can experience
a powerful burning/stinging sensation. It can also feel
very painful for around five minutes.
The area treated will be frozen solid and needs to be
massaged by the therapist to help break down the fat cells.
The whole process is then repeated on the other side. Your
chin, neck and lower face could feel rather sore for a week
or more and some bruising is possible. Some people see
chin shrinkage within a few weeks, but it can take up to
three months for full results.
COST: Around £1,600 (coolsculpting.co.uk).
PROBLEM: The neck gets its own type of wrinkles -
'bands' that appear horizontally across the neck over time.
TREATMENT: Wrinkle-relaxing injections. The chief
muscle in the neck, called the Platysma, is responsible for
drawing the neck downwards along the jawline as well
as forming bands that can be seen vertically when they
contract. If the muscle is injected with a muscle-relaxant,
it can reduce the tendency for the neck skin to be pulled
downwards improving the appearance of the bands.
The treatment tends to be most effective for those in their
30s and 40s and needs to be carried out every three months
to maintain optimum results.
COST: From around £350 (available nationwide).

PROBLEM: Over time, fatty deposits can form under
the jawbone, causing a 'double chin'.
TREATMENT: Coolsculpt Mini is a fat reducing device
that's great for smaller areas. One side of your chin is
sucked up into a little cooling device that literally freezes
the fat. It feels rather uncomfortable at first, but once
the tissue has been frozen you shouldn't feel a thing.
However, you do have to lie perfectly still for the duration
of the treatment so as not to dislodge the Coolsculpt head,
which would scupper the procedure. When the device is

PROBLEM: The thin skin of the chest can appear crepey
over time, especially after years of sun exposure
TREATMENT: Profhilo injections are made from
hydrating hyaluronic acid in its purest form. The treatment
gives long-lasting plumping results, moisturising skin from
within to plump out crepeyness, boosting the production
of collagen and elastin so your skin becomes more springy
over time. The treatment has also been found to stimulate
the body's stem cell production, supporting the fatty tissue
under the skin so that it gets thicker and even firmer. It
can be used to firm up crepey skin anywhere on the body,
including knees, elbows and the abdomen.
COST: Around £400 (ha-derma.co.uk/products/profhilo/).
PROBLEM: Hands get a lot of wear and tear and their
naturally thin skin tends to become visibly thinner more
quickly than anywhere else on the body. The skin can
become more transparent, making blood vessels, bones
and ligaments more visible.
THE TREATMENT: The dermal filler Radiesse® restores
volume and adds structure to the skin, leaving the backs of
the hands looking plumper. It's the first and only dermal
filler approved by the FDA for the face and hands, the
unique, innovative and safe gel formula contains calcium
microspheres that stimulate the body to produce collagen.
That means you get both instant and longer-term results,
which should at least two years.

plump, youthful look to the cheeks start to shrink with age,
the mid-face can begin to look gaunt. This loss of volume
has an ageing affect, causing a saggy appearance in the
lower face and even hollowing around the eyes.
THE TREATMENT: Fat grafting can be a longer-lasting
alternative to injectible fillers. Fat is 'harvested' from
the abdomen or another fatty area of the body using
liposuction. It is then processed before being injected into
the face to restore volume and recreate more youthful
contours. Grafting can also improve the quality and
tone of the overlying skin.
Often performed under a general anaesthetic, usually
with an overnight hospital stay, it's a pretty invasive
treatment compared with injectible fillers, but results
should be far more longer-lasting. The procedure can also
be carried out at the same time as a facelift to enhance the
results of surgery. You may need a a week or so off work
while bruising and swelling goes down.
COST: Around £4,850 for a full facial (baaps.org.uk).
