Emma James, BSc
(Hons), MCSP,
SRP, HPC, APPI,
is owner and
clinical director
of Emma James
Physiotherapy.
Since qualifying in
1998, Ms James has
worked in the private sector treating
muscular and skeletal injuries. Her main
areas of focus are the management of
movement dysfunctions and recovery
from long-term or complex injury. As
an AposTherapist and women's health
practitioner, her skills allow her to
review body biomechanics as a whole.

practices 12 years ago, Emma set up

She has created an incredible holistic
wellbeing department focusing on
inner health and mindfulness, complete
with a fully equipped gym and

AposTherapy
Custom-made orthotics.
AposTherapy® is a non-surgical and
drug-free treatment programme for
the management of low back, knee
and pelvic pain, and biomechanical
disorders. The personalised treatment
programme re-designs the way you
walk by aligning the body and reeducating the muscles around the joints.
The programme is based on a unique
biomechanical device that is attached
to a shoe and worn on the foot at home
or at work for about an hour each
day. It is calibrated for the individual
patient's needs by a specially trained
chartered physiotherapist.
The therapeutic effects are achieved
by inserting two convex Pertupod caps,
or pods, under the main weight-bearing
areas of the foot - the heel and the
forefoot. The precise positioning of the
caps reduces the loads and redistributes
them away from the painful areas of the
joint. The convex shape introduces mild
instability and increases proprioception,
which is the perception, usually at a
subconscious level, of the movements
and position of the body and especially
its limbs, to create a new and more
neutral walking pattern.
