out? According to one
10-year-old it's 'to a
theme park where the rides are really
wicked and you get to do things on your
own, without the grown-ups interfering'.
And his little sister nods in agreement.
They could well have been describing
GreenWood Forest Park, about ﬁve
miles from Caernarfon, which has been
voted Best Family Attraction in North
Wales by the North Wales Chronicle for
six years running.
Set in 27 magical acres, it's easy
to see why it's such a winner, with a
day's worth of woodland adventures,
attractions and family fun on offer.

The park was started back in 1993 by
Bangor University graduates Stephen
and Andrea Bristow, who had worked
on tree conservation in Africa.
Stephen says: 'We wanted an
environment-education project to tell
people about trees from all over the
world and raise awareness of the
importance of forests.' So he and
Andrea bought a swathe of land and
began organising guided walking tours.
The enterprise attracted 30,000
visitors in each of those ﬁrst few years,
but that wasn't enough to sustain
the business ﬁnancially, especially in
