set in stone
CED products are ethically sourced, competitively priced
and of top quality - as well as totally natural, of course
trong and beautiful, stone
is intrinsic to the world and
looks right in any landscape.
It can enhance all locations
from large public buildings to small
private gardens. With lovely, natural
variations in colour and coming in a
range of finishes and textures, stone
creates a truly superb outdoor space
that actually looks even better over time.
One of the UK's leading suppliers of
natural stone is the CED Stone Group.
It was established 40 years ago by
Michael Heap and has continued to
grow ever since, thanks to his policy
of 'fulfilling the needs of our clients
efficiently and honestly and always
at competitive prices'.
Growing the company
A little over three years ago, Michael
stepped aside as managing director
to hand over to his son Giles, who has
plans to grow the company even more
and increase its market share.
While the company traditionally sells
to the construction industry, public
services and landscape businesses, it is
fast developing a flourishing consumer
customer base as well, and CED's
website shows a choice of its items to
give design ideas.
The company holds a vast range of
products in stock, including paving,
boulders, feature stones, rockery,
walling, aggregates, and a selection of
reclaimed materials. Recently, in response
to demand, it has extended its range to
include some composite materials,
especially its popular decking. All
products are sourced directly from
CED's Tier pane
makes a handso
competent and experienced British and
international producers. So with CED,
quality is guaranteed.
As well as its head office plus depot
based in Grays, Essex, CED has four
other depots: South West in the Thames
Valley; Nottingham, which serves the
Midlands; Castle Cary in Scotland and
Omagh in Northern Ireland.
All five depots hold stock on site and
have show areas for clients to view the
materials on sale, and each is staffed by
friendly, experienced workers, some of
whom have been with CED for years.
As Giles Heap says: 'If you are
interested in using our stone products,
then we recommend a visit in person,
The same pa
can be used
for a feature
as the quality of many of our products
only come to life when seen in person.
'It is also very important that technical
aspects are considered, to ensure the
correct stone is used.'
Yorkstone paving is still one of CED's
top sellers. Diamond-sawn on all six
sides, the 600mm paving stone's clean
lines‚ crisp surface and toughness make
it equally ideal for contemporary private
schemes as for public pavements.
Likewise, the CED sandblasted steps
with anti-slip surfaces are a reliable buy.
Comparative newcomers are the
2.7m-diameter sandstone circles, which
