LORRAINE BAGGED THE AWARD IN THE NEW YEAR’S HONOURS LIST FOR HER TIRELESS CHARITY WORK M ost of you know lorraine from her appearances on her own morning iTV show Lorraine. But her OBE (Officer of the Most excellent order of the British empire) was not presented for her contribution to television, but for her services to charity and the armed forces. For years lorraine has been championing a number of charities, including several that support the armed forces. ‘i am so thrilled and deeply honoured,’ lorraine said on hearing the news of her honour. ‘it was a wonderful surprise. i am very lucky to be able to help some amazing charities, which really lorraine has also spearheaded several other charities… AND THERE’S EvEN MORE Clockwise: Lorraine with RAF Leuchers in a typhoon; with the troops; at Edinburgh MoonWalk; the start of the 2010 Virgin London Marathon; with the rest of the celebrities before the Comic Relief BT Red Nose Desert Trek in Kenya ‘Working with the armed forces is a real privilege’ make a difference but i am only a very, very small part of what they achieve. i was lucky enough to have been appointed Honorary Colonel of the Black watch Cadets and to have been able to work with charities that support our brilliant armed forces. i’m also a patron for Help For Heroes.’ lorraine has long supported the armed forces and last year she launched the UK armed Forces day in edinburgh. she was made Honorary Colonel of the Black watch Cadets in 2010. ‘The Cadets are a brilliant organisation,’ lorraine says, ‘and they really help young people from all walks of life. The Force for action skills they learn in Cadets really help them in whatever they decide to do with their lives. They are taught how to work in a team and also given real confidence in themselves.’ Run, Lorraine, run With her bra firmly on the outside, lorraine has embraced the breast cancer charity fundraiser MoonWalk since their inception in 2002, putting her feet firmly forward for 26.5 miles through the night some years in edinburgh and some in london.
