| COSMETIC SURGERY| BEFORE AFTER Olga’s breasts overwhelmed her frame ‘I adore my smaller boobs’ ince the age of 13, Olga Demetriou, 40, had to live with the burden of having breasts that were, as she puts it, ‘like a joke’. ‘I was called names like “big boobs” at school. It was an ongoing thing throughout my teens and twenties and it was pretty awful,’ she recalls. ‘Then, when I hit my 30s, I put on a bit of weight and things just went from bad to worse. My boobs got so huge, they really affected my life. I was miserable.’ Olga decided to take action by going on a diet. ‘Sadly, it didn’t work,’ she says. ‘I lost weight, but my boobs didn’t get any smaller.’ By this time, Olga was ﬁlled with despair. ‘Physically, I was in pain – my shoulders were killing me due to the weight – and the issue was knocking my conﬁdence, too. I couldn’t ﬁnd any bras to ﬁt me and I was so conscious of my boobs, I was forever trying to cover them up.’ If that wasn’t bad enough, Olga also found the size of her breasts inﬂuenced how men spoke to her. ‘Guys would look at my chest rather S FED UP WITH SIZE 38J BREASTS THAT CAUSED HER PAIN AND EMBARRASSMENT, OLGA DEMETRIOU WENT UNDER THE KNIFE than my face,’ she says. ‘Other men avoided talking to me because my cleavage made them feel uneasy.’ Deciding that enough was enough, four years ago, at the age of 36, Olga went to her GP and got referred to the NHS for a breast reduction. ‘I was a perfect candidate for the surgery because my breasts were damaging me physically as well as emotionally. It’s worth consulting your doctor Olga had her nipples removed, fat was sucked out of her breasts and her nipples were stitched back on. ‘I was quite nervous before the operation, but I had no reason to worry. The procedure was a success and I am now a 38C – buying my ﬁrst bra from a “normal” shop was great!’ ‘My breasts are now in proportion to my body and no longer sit on my tummy! I look different and I feel fantastic.
