And many lumps, bumps or nodules women discover are, in fact, just areas of normal breast tissue, which can become more swollen and noticeable just before starting a menstrual period. Each of your breasts contains 15-20 lobes of glandular tissue, arranged like the petals of a daisy. These are further divided into smaller lobules that produce milk during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Supporting this network is a deeper layer of connective tissue called stroma. All women should regularly examine their breasts, at least once a month, and take note of any changes they find. If you notice a lump or any change in your don’T PaniC breasts it is important to see symptoms similar to Breast your GP as soon as possible. Breast tumours are usually first spotted by women themselves so it’s vital that you are breast aware. Even among those women that do consider themselves breast aware and check for new and unusual lumps in their breasts regularly, many remain unaware of the full range of signs and symptoms to look out for. Always check around the same time of the month – think two or three days before your period; or if periods have stopped, on the same day roughly every four weeks.
